DKMS stands for Deutsche Knochenmarkspenderdatei (German Bone Marrow Donor Database) and their vision is: we will beat leukaemia. They want to find a suitable donor for every leukaemia patient or enable access to therapies – all over the world.
Every 15 minutes a person in Germany receives the shattering diagnosis: leukaemia. Many patients are children and adolescents, whose only chance of being cured is a bone marrow transplant. For every tenth patient, however, no donor can be found.

We have been developing swivel joints and rotary joints for over 40 years with the aim of optimising the product for the plant operator and machine manufacturer.

With regard to the necessary saving of weight in electric vehicles, the automotive industry wants to increase the present plastic content by around 25 %. Metal-based materials for structural parts and sub-assemblies are also to be replaced by fibre-reinforced plastics in the future. The machines and manufacturing processes required for this are subject to constant further development.
A decisive factor, and perhaps the most important factor of all in the melting and forming of plastics, is the control of the temperature in extruders and calenders. The rotating screws or rollers are supplied with a heating medium (water, oil or steam). Rotary joints are required here to supply the media and to seal the machine elements.
The rotating screws and rollers of many types of machine in the plastics industry are fed with heating or cooling media in order to guarantee the necessary process temperature. HAAG + ZEISSLER offers suitable rotary joints for the entire process of manufacturing plastic components. The 7400 series has been extended by the size ¾”. This version is optimised for high pressure with a high throughput and high speeds of rotation. In addition to detailed information on the design, the brochure also contains the operating conditions and illustrations of the series, including the dimensions. Digitalisation is changing the face of machine manufacturing together with industry. As translators, the Guard-Tech 4.0 and Sensorlager 4.0 products represent the link between industrial processes and the company’s IT, supplementary to the rotary joint.
Guard-Tech 4.0 is used for the preventive maintenance of the drainage line of the rotary joint.

Rotary joints are required for feeding media (water, steam, thermal oil, air, etc.) into rotating drums, shafts or spindles. The cooling and heating rollers of many types of machine used in the rubber processing industry are fed with these media in order to ensure the necessary process temperature of the drums.
Rotary joints are found in the entire manufacturing process in the tyre industry. The blades of the mixers, the cooling and heating rollers of the extruders and calenders, the roller head systems, etc. are tempered with rotary joints. These are usually positioned at the end of the rotating machine components and form the interface to the stationary pipelines.
At the heart of every rotary joint is the rotary seal. Their reliability and long life span are crucial for the machine operators. In the 9001 series, Haag + Zeissler employ a cartridge system with bellows that makes springs or O-rings redundant – a reliable and robust construction.

However, the manufacturers of rubber processing machines can also benefit from an optimised rotary joint. The rotary joint sits on the end of the shaft. If it is shorter or can even be integrated in the shaft journal of the drum, then the entire machine can be made narrower. Costs can be saved just through the reduced width of the machine frame and the entire support structure with its reinforcements, thus reducing the machine price without loss of quality. With the same performance the machine is simply less expensive and can establish itself better in the market.

The slender rotary joints from the HAAG + ZEISSLER 7900 series have proven themselves over a period of many years. At the request of our customers with the 7950 series a compact rotary joint has now been designed especially for cramped mounting spaces in extruder construction.
Extruders are screw presses that homogenise solid to viscous masses under high pressure and high temperature and press them out of a specially shaped opening. Apart from the food industry, the main sales market for extruders is the plastics industry. For example: pipes, profiles, bottles and much more can be manufactured from plastic by means of extrusion. The plastic granulate or powder is melted by means of heating in the screw cylinder; so called plasticized. In order for the plasticized plastic to solidify again after moulding, it must be cooled. This can take place by means of cooling channels integrated in the extruder cylinder, through which a cooling medium flows – for example water under pressure. The cooling medium is fed in through a rotary joint, through which the medium flows into the rotating cylinder.
In extruder construction the rotary joints are normally integrated in cramped installation situations. For that reason slender and compact sizes are called for. On the basis of the proven sealing system of its 7900 series, HAAG + ZEISSLER has now developed a compact rotary joint, taking into account economic aspects. In its robust, vibration-proof sealing cartridge system CD-Cartridge-Design the rotor, bearings and the stationary and rotating sealing parts are combined in a pre-assembled unit. This quick-change cartridge system can be individually and easily exchanged. In this way the machine downtimes can be minimised.
The housing of this rotary joint is made of anodised aluminium. The weight of the housing has been reduced by 60% through the choice of this material. This minimises the oscillating mass at the shaft end and the service life of the rotary joint is prolonged.

Until the Middle Ages, magical herbs and cult objects were laid around the wort copper to prevent the brewing process going wrong. The last so-called brew witch was burnt at the stake in Germany in 1591. She was made responsible for the brewer’s beer going bad.
The types of beer that could be brewed depended on the season. Bottom fermented beer was brewed in winter, top fermented in the summer months. The Purity Law still did not allow for yeast. That came from the air, for which reason bakers were often favoured when brewing rights were granted.
Today we know better. In addition to the Purity Law, which prescribes the ingredients, the “Cleanliness Law” must also be strictly adhered to.
Brewing takes place in batches in containers that hold up to 500,000 litres. So that nothing can go wrong and the consumer always gets his preferred beer type with the same taste, the temperature must be precisely controlled in all steps of the manufacturing process.
It is here that we encounter the rotary joint machine element. Mighty stirring arms, through which cooling water flows, gently stir the mash and ensure an exact temperature, which must always be constant and the same for every batch. The stationary pipeline is connected to the rotating arm by a rotary joint.
Rotary joints are not only used in the final brewing process – rotary joints or swivel joints are also used in the manufacturing of the ingredients. The airborne yeast of the mediaeval bakery has long been replaced by precisely bred brewer’s yeast, which is continually turned into yeast powder in drum dryers with the help of rotary joints. This is then fed into the fermentation tank in a precise quantity and purity.
Hop cones in their original form are added to the copper nowadays in palletised form. The desiccated hops are ground and pressed into pellets. Rotary joints can prevent the overheating of the grinding and pelletising rollers here.
Compliance with the “Cleanliness Law” is indispensable in brewing technology. All materials of the containers and fittings used must therefore comply with this law. The rotary joints and swivel joints from HAAG + ZEISSLER are therefore offered in stainless steel. Electropolished versions are available if desired for reducing wettability, in addition to which versions can be supplied with food-safe flanges or dairy fittings according to DIN 11851.
The production of foodstuffs requires temperature control that is as exact as possible. It is here that we encounter the rotary joint machine element.
Rotary joints are used for passing on media to rotating drums, tumblers, shafts or spindles. The cooling and heating rollers or the shafts of many types of machines used in the food processing industry are fed with these liquid or gaseous media in order to ensure the necessary constant process temperature. The temperature range for the optimal feed of the media is between approx. -45° and +345° degrees Celsius. Almost every machine type in the food processing industry can be fitted.
Rotary joints are found in the food industry not only in the manufacturing process of the basic materials, but also in the further processing into intermediate and end products. In doing so, rotary joints are integrated into rotating machine components. In order to quickly and evenly provide a product with the required energy, the rotating shovels of driers, mixers and cookers are often heated. Jams and fruit preparations for juices or dairy products and chocolate are thus given the desired and stable consistency, which amongst other things is of utmost importance in the fermentation process of beer, for example. Flat, solid products such as cereal bars or processed cheese slices are manufactured using heated or cooled drums.
The rotary joints for the cooling or heating media are usually positioned at the end of the rotating machine components and form the interface to the stationary pipelines. The use of a reliable and durable rotary joint is of great significance, as this is the only way to ensure consistent quality and system availability. However, maintenance costs due to expensive high temperature greases are also a major cost factor.

Costs can be saved just through the reduced width of the machine frame and the entire support structure with its reinforcements, thus considerably reducing the machine price without loss of quality.
Thanks to the new construction kit system with sealing cartridges and modularly constructed housing assemblies, HAAG + ZEISSLER can deliver almost any rotary joint within a few hours. The stationary connection elements and the rotor flange or thread types desired by the customer are modularly adapted. Different interior tubing variants are covered by integrated spacers. One or two-way variants are generated by elbow segments or sealing flange. Various bellows cartridges are available for different media, speeds and temperatures. Sealing cartridges with ball bearings or plain bearings are used according to the application. A special version is supplied with maintenance-free, solid-lubricated high-temperature ball bearings. All rotary joint configurations are also manufactured in stainless steel. The individual connecting parts required by the customer are always available and are adapted to the basic body of the rotary joint.

In the new 60 – page brochure from HAAG + ZEISSLER multiport joints are presented. These rotary joints manufactured in modular segment design can be used for the supply and removal of media in 2 to 11 channels.
Multiport joints are used mainly for the supply of hydraulic and pneumatic actuators. Moreover, they can be used for the supply and discharge of cooling and heating media, if more than one fluid circuit is required. The media channels are sealed strictly each other and can be independently applied to different pressures and media. Even the transmission of electrical signals is possible for this slip rings can be adapted.

Rotary joints generally seal the passage of gases or fluids between two counter-rotating bodies. HAAG + ZEISSLER offer the new MRF multiport rotary joint for cases where electrical signals are to be transmitted at the same time, for example for the control of valves or the measurement of temperature. Thanks to its modular segmental construction with identical 2-way units, it can be flexibly designed as a 2, 4 or 6-way rotary joint. It is thus ideally suited to the supply of process media, oil, compressed air or cooling water to moving components while simultaneously transmitting measuring or control signals.
The MRF series from HAAG + ZEISSLER covers a wide range of operating pressures: the values range from 0.07 to 250 bar, depending on the speed of rotation and the medium. The MRF series is aimed at all applications with moderate speeds of rotation up to a maximum of 250 rpm.
The electrical signals are transmitted via standardised slip-ring bodies, whose slideways are specially hardened and gold-plated. This allows the reliable transmission of even the finest currents and signals for thermocouples, video and data communication or control electronics. The selected hard gold/gold combination is rustproof and provides for reliable signal transmission and constant contact quality over a long period.
Thanks to the segmental construction of the multiport rotary joint HAAG + ZEISSLER is able to considerably lower the manufacturing costs, since only a few different components are required for the construction of 2, 4 and 6-way rotary joints. Customers benefit later on during operation through savings on maintenance and service costs. The simple dismantling of the MRF series enables simple and quick access to the interior, so that any necessary replacement or cleaning work can be accomplished in no time.
The media are fed statically into the housing and sealed to the axially bored rotor. Special PTFE compounds are used as sealing elements, because they generate little friction and exhibit no stick-slip effect even after lengthy standstill periods. The rotor is made of stainless steel with a hardened, ground and polished surface. The housing segments are available in stainless steel 1.4404, brass or aluminium. Segments, seals and slip rings are kept in stock, which means that they and not the customers await their delivery.

Vibrations in plants and machines have a harmful effect on the accuracy of the product being manufactured. The most frequent causes of vibrations are unbalanced rotating components and oscillations of external pipelines.
HAAG + ZEISSLER offers its newly developed series 7101 and 7501 for machines with rotary or translatory oscillations and vibrations, such as milling machines, inking rollers, presses, mills or shredders.
The weight has been reduced by 60% through the choice of the appropriate housing material. This minimises the oscillating mass at the end of the shaft and improves stability.
The most frequent causes of vibrations in plants and machines are unbalanced rotating components and oscillations of external pipelines. Vibrations have a harmful effect on the accuracy of the workpiece or product being manufactured. If the vibrations become too strong this can cause damage to the plant, which usually leads to a further increase in the vibrations and ultimately to total failure. No matter how precisely and rigidly the machine is manufactured or how firmly it stands – oscillations and vibrations can be reduced, but never entirely eliminated.
Rotary joints are required for feeding media (water, steam, oil, air, etc.) into rotating shafts, rollers or spindles. They are usually positioned at the end of the rotating machine component and form the interface to the stationary pipelines. Rotary joints can be a cause of machine vibrations if their rotating parts are carelessly manufactured and/or if insufficient attention is paid to the connection to the rotating end of the shaft. Conical threads are ruled out here.
HAGUE + ZEISSLER offers threads with a spigot or centring surface and self-centring flat metal gaskets for rotary connections. A large number of flange versions with spigots are also available.

Swivel joints are used wherever media pipes have to be moved. Articulated constructions with three swivel joints are used if linear displacements are necessary. If continuous rotary movements have to be realised, e.g. in round clarifiers, a swivel joints is arranged in the centre that connects the stationary pipe with the rotating scraper bar.
In many cases swivel joints can replace hoses when they reach their limits with regard to nominal width or excessive pressure or movement stresses. Hoses and swivel joints are also installed together, however, if the repetitive torsion and bending stresses cause breakages at the hose/fitting connections.

HAAG + ZEISSLER rotary joints are made individually for the customer and are still available at short notice, in most cases even immediately. How does that work?
This is made possible and affordable by the 9001 series. It is a construction of consistent modular design with standardised elements stocked by HAAG + ZEISSLER – also in stainless steel.
The series does without elastomers and springs thanks to the use of bellows. Six components are sufficient – that is simple and at the same time good.
Whether a two-way rotary joint with ASA flanges is required in a steelworks for a press, or whether a stainless steel rotary joint with a rotor flange and diamond coating is required in a dairy for preparing the fruit mixture – the rotary joint is available in sizes from ¼“ to 4“ within a few hours – even in stainless steel.
HAAG + ZEISSLER Maschinenelemente GmbH presents a new series for pneumatic use. These rotary joints enable valve controllers or cylinders on rotating machine parts to be supplied with compressed air or vacuum. Applications for this type of rotary joint are to be found, for example, in turntables, transfer machines or automatic assembly machines. The standard versions are equipped with 2, 4, 6 or 8 channels in the connection sizes M5 and ¼”. The rotary joints have been developed with a modular segmental design, so that the seals are easily accessible and thus simple to replace. The maximum speed of rotation is 250 rpm and the maximum operating temperature 90 °C. The multiport rotary joints can be used both for air and for vacuum. In addition, electrical signals, media or supply lines can be fed through the central bore. The inclusion of ball bearings ensures a long service life under high stress. The materials used are steel, stainless steel or aluminium, depending on the application and version.

The series is built in a range of variants for many years and can be used universally. The unit construction system of the series 9001 makes it possible to HAAG + ZEISSLER to realize customer wishes individually in a very short time. The modules of the rotary joints are also stored in stainless steel and configured for each customer in a few hours. HAAG + ZEISSLER manufactures the series 9001 consistently only in Germany.
At K 2013 fair HAAG + ZEISSLER presents ROTRAY JOINTS in new design with modular system.
Combined with the cartridge sealing system – CD-Cartridge-Design – rotary joints are offered, whose clever system with a bellows makes stock keeping and maintenance easier and operating cost goes down.
The design is free of springs or o-rings and therefore good for high temperatures. With a small quantity of parts a very robust and durable rotating joint has been realized.
The strength of the series MD – modular design -will be evident in highly rough environments.
The main joint with single flow added with adapter and ellbow will be a dual flow joint for stationary or rotating inner pipe. Flangeconnections are available.
